Sunflower oil is a clear, liquid oil obtained by refining sunflower seeds through processes such as pressing and extraction. The sunflower plant, the raw material for sunflower oil in Turkey, is grown annually in relatively temperate regions such as France, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, Ukraine, and Russia. Sunflower oil is primarily consumed in Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Romania, and the United Kingdom. Sunflower seeds can yield up to 45% sunflower oil.
Sunflower oil is one of the best natural sources of vitamin E. It contains more vitamin E compared to other sources such as hazelnuts, peanuts, olive oil, soybeans, corn, and canola oil. Vitamin E is an antioxidant vitamin that protects fats, proteins, and cells against oxidative damage. Adequate vitamin E consumption strengthens the immune system and reduces the risk of heart disease.
